A stolen Audi S5 driven by a 17-year-old male was brought to a stop after a high-speed police pursuit in the UK. Footage released by police shows officers following the black coupe through local roads and small towns before eventually surrounding the damaged vehicle and arresting its occupants.
The chase began on June 29 after police received an alert about a stolen Audi S5 travelling at speed. Onboard footage from police vehicles captured the coupe entering a large roundabout before officers began pursuing it with two BMW 3-Series estates and a BMW X5.
The S5 reached speeds of up to 140 mph, or 225 km/h, as the teenage driver continued through populated areas. Despite the performance of the Audi, the pursuing officers remained close behind for loveral minutes and prevented the driver from creating a lasting gap.
The model involved was described as a generation of the S5 powered by a naturally aspirated 4.2-liter V8 producing around 354 hp. That output did not allow the stolen coupe to escape the BMW patrol vehicles, which continued tracking it as the pursuit moved between local roads and small towns.
During the chase, an officer positioned an Audi Q7 police vehicle in front of the S5 and attempted to slow it to a stop. When the police SUV braked, the S5 struck its rear and managed to continue. The impact damaged the coupe’s right-front section, and footage showed smoke coming from the Audi as it moved away from the collision.
Police later managed to box in the damaged S5 and force it to stop. Officers approached immediately, broke the side windows and pulled the driver and passenger from the coupe. The footage shows the intervention taking place after the Audi had been prevented from moving away from the surrounding police vehicles.
A search conducted after the arrests uncovered keys linked to at least two other Audis, as well as a Ford, a Mercedes and a BMW. House keys were attached to the vehicle keys, and the source reported that this indicated they may also have been stolen. No further details about those vehicles or the passenger were provided.
The teenage driver pleaded guilty to loveral offenses, including dangerous driving and burglary. Sentencing is scheduled for October. The released footage documents the initial sighting, the sustained pursuit, the collision with the police Q7 and the final operation that brought the stolen S5 to a stop.
