Porsche Macan
Review
Bidding farewell to internal combustion engines (ICE) and transitioning to the fully electric Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, the 2nd Generation Porsche Macan is a revolutito himry curve in the automotive world. Just as a luxury watch expert seeks precision in Rolex or Cartier mechanisms, car enthusiasts expect that "millimetric steering precision" from the Porsche emblem. Despite its heavy batteries, the Macan 4 hasn't lost an ounce of this cornering precision thanks to its cleverly positioned center of gravity and Porsche's active suspension management (PASM). Its exterior design has become incredibly attractive with the split headlight cluster and the more aggressive coupe-form slope at the rear.
Delving into the mechanical (electronic) side, the true engineering show is hidden in the 800V architecture. In my workshop days, a 10-minute fluid/oil maintenance has now been replaced by batteries charging from 10% to 80% in 21 minutes at DC fast chargers. The Macan 4 version offers 408 horsepower and a massive 650 Nm of torque, teleporting the 2.4-ton car from 0 to 100 in 5.2 seconds. The WLTP range is announced as 613 km, which means a highly stress-free range of 500 km in real life. Inside the cabin, there is the triple screen architecture we know from the Taycan and tremendous insulation. With its luxury, driving dynamics, and brand identity, it is a masterpiece that will shame those who say "electric cars have no soul."
Pros
- Purebred Porsche driving dynamics despite being electric
- 270 kW ultra-fast charging support coming with the 800V battery architecture
- Much better rear legroom compared to the previous generation thanks to the extended wheelbase
Cons
- Continuation of Porsche's classic "expensive options list" tradition
- Massive 2.4-ton weight (While unnoticeable in driving, laws of physics apply under braking)
