Lexus NX Facelift Spotted During Testing

24 Apr 2026

Lexus is in the process of updating its NX compact crossover, which has become the brand’s second best-selling model. Recent spy photos have captured prototypes of the facelifted NX undergoing tests in Europe, including laps at the Nürburgring circuit. These images reveal that the update is likely to be subtle, focusing primarily on exterior tweaks to keep the model fresh against increasing competition.

Design and Exterior Updates

The most noticeable changes are at the front, where the NX receives a redesigned spindle grille featuring two new horizontal bars at the bottom. The headlights are also new, now incorporating dual lighting strips that function as both daytime running lights and turn indicators. Below the headlights, triangular air intakes give the crossover a sportier appearance. The front bumper has been revised with a more rounded lower lip, enhancing the vehicle’s overall presence. The side profile remains largely unchanged, though new wheel designs are expected. At the rear, minor adjustments are likely, but most details remain hidden under camouflage for now.

Interior and Technology Enhancements

While interior images have not surfaced, industry expectations suggest the NX could adopt a new steering wheel design, replacing the classic “L” badge with the full “LEXUS” script—mirroring updates seen on the ES sedan. In terms of safety, the facelifted NX may upgrade to the Lexus Safety System+ 4.0, bringing advanced driver assistance features beyond the current 3.0 iteration.

Powertrain Options

Official details about powertrains for the facelifted model remain unconfirmed. The current NX lineup includes a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine delivering 275 hp and 430 Nm of torque, a 2.5-liter hybrid with a combined 240 hp, and a plug-in hybrid option that pairs a 2.5-liter engine with electric motors and an 18.1 kWh battery for 304 hp and up to 60 km of electric-only range. There is no indication yet of significant changes to these offerings, but adjustments could be revealed closer to launch.

Market Position and Outlook

The NX has played a crucial role in Lexus’ European and global portfolio, balancing premium features with efficient powertrains. Its main rivals include the BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz GLC, and Volvo XC60. With this mid-cycle refresh, Lexus aims to maintain the NX’s appeal in a crowded segment by updating its design and technology. Pricing and full specifications are expected to be announced later, ahead of its arrival in showrooms.

Editorial Comment

The Lexus NX facelift appears to be a calculated move to keep the model relevant amidst fierce competition in the premium compact SUV market. The visual updates, though subtle, align with Lexus’ broader design philosophy, while anticipated tech and safety upgrades reflect changing customer priorities. Given the NX’s strong sales performance, particularly in Europe, these changes should help sustain its momentum. As electrification and advanced driver assistance become more central to the segment, Lexus is likely to focus on refining the user experience and efficiency without straying far from the formula that has made the NX a core part of its lineup. Buyers can expect more information—including possible updates to the hybrid and plug-in hybrid options—closer to the official launch.
