Hyundai Ioniq EVs May Drop Pixel Lighting

10 Apr 2026

Hyundai has teased two new concept cars—Venus and Earth—signaling a potential shift in the design language of its Ioniq electric vehicle lineup. Early images suggest a move away from the brand’s signature pixel lighting toward a cleaner, more minimalist LED aesthetic, hinting at the future direction of Hyundai EV design.

New Concepts Signal Design Evolution

The South Korean automaker revealed limited teaser images of the Venus and Earth concepts, showcasing sleek bodywork with sharp lines and ultra-thin lighting elements. While official details remain scarce, Hyundai is expected to unveil both vehicles before the end of April, possibly at major events like the Beijing Auto Show or Milan Design Week.

Goodbye Pixel Lighting?

Hyundai’s Ioniq lineup—including the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 9—has become instantly recognizable thanks to its retro-futuristic pixel lighting signature. However, the new concepts suggest a departure from this design identity. Instead, the teaser images highlight simpler LED strips and refined styling cues, indicating a new visual direction for future Ioniq models.

Design Details From Teaser Images

A small lip spoiler and fastback-style roofline enhance its aerodynamic look. The second image reveals a silver car’s front end, with a narrow LED light bar and angular lighting elements forming a forward-pointing arrow design. This theme continues in the sharp creases along the body panels.

Possible SUV and Sedan Interpretations

While Hyundai hasn’t confirmed body styles, design cues suggest that at least one concept could be an SUV. The silver model’s short hood, forward-cab stance, and wheel-arch cladding support this theory. Its styling also draws comparisons to recent futuristic concepts in the EV space, emphasizing efficiency and interior space.

What’s Next for Ioniq?

Hyundai describes the Venus and Earth concepts as part of a “cosmic statement” and a new chapter in the Ioniq story. As the brand continues to refine its EV strategy, these concepts could preview the next generation of Ioniq vehicles—both in design and innovation. More details are expected soon as Hyundai prepares for their official debut.
