Ford Geely Technology Talks Stalled Amid US-China Tensions

Ford has recently faced scrutiny over its stance on Chinese automotive technology. While the company has publicly described Chinese tech as a major threat to the American auto industry, reports reveal that Ford previously engaged in discussions with Geely, China’s second-largest automaker, to potentially bring Geely’s technology to the United States. According to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal, discussions between Ford and Geely began more than a year ago. The negotiations explored the possibility of Ford licensing Geely’s platforms—core structural foundations used in multiple vehicle models—for future US-market vehicles. Geely, which also controls brands such as Volvo Cars and Polestar, has made its global ambitions clear, recently showcasing its Galaxy M9 electric vehicle at CES in Las Vegas.
