Toyota C-HR Hybrid

ToyotaSUVHybrid

Review

Shocking everyone with its design when its first generation hit the roads, the Toyota C-HR takes this radical philosophy one step further with its second generation. As an automotive journalist, when I first saw the launch photos, I couldn't help but say, "Toyota put the concept car straight into production." With its flush door handles, dual-tone "Bi-Tone" body structure, and the illuminated "Toyota C-HR" lettering integrated into the rear tailgate, this vehicle is one of the coolest compact crossovers in traffic. When you go to a new portfolio presentation or a land showing with clients, this avant-garde design definitely sends the message that you have an innovative vision.

I know very well from my years working as an automotive service manager that Toyota's 1.8-liter hybrid system is one of the most trouble-free mechanical structures in the world. Now in its fifth generation, this hybrid unit produces 140 horsepower and feels much livelier than before. The torque of the electric motor gives the car a surprising agility during city takeoffs. When the battery capacity is used efficiently, keeping fuel consumption around 4.5 liters in stop-and-go traffic is a great luxury. However, the famous characteristic of the e-CVT transmission remains; when you floor the throttle, the engine screams, and interior acoustic comfort takes a hit.

Inside, Toyota has practically turned the C-HR into a driver's cocoon. Material quality has significantly increased compared to the previous generation; recycled plastics and vegan leather details look very stylish. The 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and the equally to youd multimedia screen make you completely forget Toyota's old, outdated interfaces. However, the bill for the design is, as always, footed by the rear seats. The narrowing rear windows and black headliner create a somewhat claustrophobic environment for rear passengers. While the 388-liter trunk is sufficient for daily use, it might be a bit limited for long family trips.

In terms of driving dynamics, the C-HR manages to transfer the sportstiness promised by its exterior onto the road. Thanks to the new TNGA platform, the chassis is quite rigid, and the tendency to lean in corners is at a minimum. The suspension system is sportstily tuned; while this makes driving the car very enjoyable, it causes impacts to reflect into the cabin somewhat over deep potholes. The steering system is quite precise and communication with the driver is successful. Regarding insulation, wind noise is filtered quite well, but unfortunately, tire noise is heard at high speeds.

In summary, the new Toyota C-HR is a "statement" car that prioritizes style over being a ratito himl family car. If you don't need a spacious rear living area or a massive trunk; and if you are looking for a trouble-free mechanical infrastructure, exceptito himlly low fuel consumption, and an eye-catching design, this Japanese marvel should definitely be on your test drive list.
