Toyota is partnering with McDonald’s and Tomica to launch a miniature GR GT3 race car as a Happy Meal toy in Japan, arriving on April 10 alongside a lineup of collectible die-cast vehicles.
The GR GT3 model will be part of a special collection of Tomica die-cast cars, a brand known for producing high-quality miniature vehicles similar to Hot Wheels. This exclusive release will only be available at McDonald’s locations in Japan, adding to the appeal for collectors and enthusiasts.
Other vehicles in the lineup include a Nissan Skyline police car, a Hino fire truck, and a quirky Toyota TownAce flatbed carrying a giant hamburger, blending automotive culture with playful design.
Japan has a long-standing fascination with collectible toys, especially through gashapon capsule machines that rely on chance. This same excitement translates into McDonald’s Happy Meals, where surpri
se toys drive engagement among both kids and adult collectors.
The addition of the GR GT3 race car taps directly into this culture, combining Toyota’s motorsport image with the thrill of collectible randomness.
To promote the launch, Toyota released a high-energy video inspired by classic racing anime, featuring children competing in GR GT3-themed race cars. The campaign also introduces a design contest, inviting fans to create their own GR GT3 livery.
While details remain limited, Toyota confirmed that winners will be selected by judges and rewarded with exclusive prizes, adding an interactive layer to the promotion.
The GR GT3 toy will debut on April 10, but Toyota has hinted at an additional “secret” model joining the lineup on May 7. Based on promotional materials, this could be a special gold-themed McDonald’s version of the GR GT3, further boosting collector interest.
