Leaked EPA data suggests the upcoming Rivian R2 could achieve up to 335 miles of range on a single charge, exceeding the company’s original estimates and positioning it as a strong contender in the electric SUV segment.
The Rivian R2 is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated electric vehicles in its class. Earlier announcements confirmed that the production model would meet key targets for range, performance, and pricing. However, newly surfaced information indicates the R2 might outperform those expectations.
According to screenshots shared on an online Rivian forum, purported EPA certification data shows a maximum range of 335 miles when equipped with 21-inch wheels—slightly surpassing the previously stated 330-mile figure. Meanwhile, versions fitted with 20-inch wheels are said to deliver around 314 miles, which remains competitive within the segment.
Additional figures from the leaked documents reveal a curb weight just under 5,000 pounds and a tested weight of approximately 5,250 pounds. The battery capacity is listed at 86.8 kWh, aligning well with rivals in the compact electric SUV category.
These specifications position the Rivian R2 directly against key competitors such as the Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5, reinforcing its potential as a mainstream EV option with strong real-world usability.
Performance-oriented versions of the Rivian R2 are expected to launch first, delivering over 600 horsepower to early adopters. Broader production will continue through 2026 and into 2027, with more affordable variants arriving later.
The entry-level R2 is projected to offer around 275 miles of range and start at approximately $45,000, making it one of the more accessible options in Rivian’s lineup.
If the leaked EPA figures prove accurate, the Rivian R2 could set a new benchmark for range and performance in its price bracket. Combined with Rivian’s brand momentum and design appeal, the R2 appears well-positioned to attract a wide range of EV buyers.
