Renault Megane Sedan
Review
One of the first three names that come to mind when mentioning sedans in the Turkish market, the Renault Megane Sedan (4th Gen) maintains its relevance thanks to its "timeless design," despite being on the roads since 2016 and undergoing a facelift in 2020. With its widened front grille, legendary C-Shape daytime running lights, and taillights merging at the logo in the rear, it is still highly prestigious. It is a car that appeals to every demographic, from fleet vehicles to family use, to real estate professito himls like me who use the car as an office and are constantly on the run. The fact that its production still continues for Turkey at the Karsan facilities provides an unrivaled advantage in spare parts and service accessibility.
Taking over the throne of the old 1.5 dCi engines, the 1.3-liter TCe engine (co-developed with Mercedes-Benz) is—speaking from my mechanical workshop experience—the greatest favor done to this car. 140 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque, combined with the fast shifts of the 7-speed Getrag EDC transmission, give the 1326 kg body an unexpected agility. That feeling of fullness in the gas pedal during overtakes or highway driving is truly very satisfying. Suspension settings are entirely focused on "French comfort"; reflecting potholes and rough surfaces into the cabin minimally. While the deep 503-liter trunk volume is quite sufficient, the wind and tire noise entering the cabin at high highway speeds (over 120 km/h) gives away the car's age in C-segment standards.
Pros
- Strong performance of the Mercedes-partnered 1.3 TCe engine and EDC harmony
- Abundant and affordable spare parts advantage brought by Turkish production
- High suspension comfort inherent to French cars
Cons
- Interface speed of the infotainment screen (EASY LINK) remaining slow compared to rivals
- Insulation weakness at high speeds (Wind and road noise)
