Renault Clio V Facelift

RenaultHatchbackPetrolHybrid

Review

Undeniably one of the most iconic names in the B-segment, the Renault Clio practically screams "I am a small Megane now" with its recent facelift. The renewed front fascia, widened grille, and semi-diamond daytime LED lights cascading down the bumper have given the car a much more aggressive and mature character than before. The agility offered by this compact body is a lifesaver, especially when rushing through the narrow streets of Istanbul or hurrying to back-to-back client meetings. It is one of those rare B-Hatchbacks that manages to look quite prestigious from the outside while reducing the hassle of finding a parking spot to zero.

Looking at the mechanical side with my workshop experience, the 90-horsepower version of the 1.0 TCe engine under the hood is a block that has already proven itself in terms of longevity. Its harmony with the Jatco-produced X-Tronic (CVT) transmission is tailor-made for the city; it works so smoothly in stop-and-go traffic that you forget what a shudder is. Of course, 142 Nm of torque won't pin you to the seat, and under aggressive driving, the familiar screaming characteristic of the CVT slightly kicks in. However, with its class-leading 391-liter trunk, renewed digital screens, and the French elegance it offers in the Esprit Alpine trim, it is a tremendous companion for those seeking ratito himlity.

Pros

  • One of the largest trunk volumes in its segment (391 Liters)
  • Much more aggressive and stylish front design coming with the facelift
  • Flawless smoothness of the CVT transmission in the city

Cons

  • Rear legroom is restricted for tall passengers
  • Engine and CVT noise reflects into the cabin during mid-accelerations
