Citroën C4 X
Review
While sales of standard sedans are dropping in the automotive market, Citroen stretches the rules with the C4 X by creating a brand new intermediate formula, a mix of "fastback-sedan and crossover." Looking from the outside, the front face is exactly the same as its hatchback sibling, the C4; but the elegant liftback line extending towards the rear adds a very stylish and sedan-like nobility to the car. Its high ground clearance, combined with black plastic fender trims, eliminates the fear of scraping the bottom when parking on curbs in the city while presenting a flashy stance. These hybrid designs between classes are, in my opinion, the new future of automotive.
In the mechanical section, the Stellantis group's legendary 1.2 PureTech engine and EAT8 transmission greet us. As a former master mechanic, I can describe the running character of these units blindfolded. Producing 130 horsepower and 230 Nm of torque, this engine has no trouble carrying the car's weight, which is only around 1300 kg. Reaching 0 to 100 in 10.3 seconds, the C4 X is far from being a performance vehicle, but thanks to the flawless gear shifts of the EAT8 transmission, it provides a ride that flows like butter in the city. Bringing fuel consumption down to the 5.0-liter range on long journeys is quite easy.
Inside, Citroen's famous "Advanced Comfort" philosophy takes the lead. The seats resemble your puffy living room sofa rather than a car seat. Thanks to special padding materials, you don't feel fatigue even on long journeys. The new generation 10-inch infotainment system on the dashboard works quickly. The tablet holder accessory in front of the front passenger seat is a wonderful detail for travelers. With the advantage of a 4.6-meter length, rear legroom is immense, and the deep 510-liter trunk is as wide as a cave for the real estate posters, files, and daily items I constantly carry for work.
Driving dynamics are entirely built on "French comfort." Citroen's Progressive Hydraulic Cushions suspension system literally irons out potholes and bumps on the road like a magic carpet. It is arguably one of the best suspension setups for Turkey's rough asphbottom. However, the price of this softness is the body roll felt in corners; the steering is very soft and not feedback-oriented. Instead of entering fast corners, it is a car for turning on your music and traveling in tranquility.
In summary, the Citroen C4 X is created for drivers who want to break free from the boring designs of traditito himl C-Sedans and sit a bit higher, but do not want to compromise on a large trunk and unique suspension comfort. If you aren't expecting very high performance or German firmness, it is one of the most comfortable and uniquely designed family cars you can buy for your money.
