A failed high-value car theft in New York City left multiple luxury vehicles damaged after a quick-thinking parking attendant shut down the heist mid-act. The incident, which unfolded early Sunday morning, involved high-end models including a McLaren Artura and a Mercedes-AMG G63, with suspects fleeing the scene after crashing one of the stolen cars.
According to the NYPD, officers responded to a 911 call around 5:48 a.m. on April 5, 2026, reporting a grand larceny auto in a parking garage on West 43rd Street. Four suspects allegedly entered the facility and attempted to steal three vehicles. However, the on-duty attendant managed to close the security gate, disrupting the operation.
In a desperate attempt to escape, the suspects used one of the vehicles to ram through the partially closed gate. The stolen car, identified as a McLaren Artura, made it out but crashed into a pole just a block away at 42nd Street and 11th Avenue. The suspects then abandoned the vehicle and fled in a gray BMW.
Footage from the scene revealed significant damage to several luxury vehicles, including a Mercedes-AMG G63, a Range Rover Sport, and a Volvo XC60. The Range Rover was trapped in the closing gate, while the Mercedes and Volvo were found damaged and left on the street.
Vehicle owners reported that keys had been left inside the cars, making access easier for the thieves. One owner stated that his Volvo XC60 suffered severe damage as a result. The incident has raised concerns about security practices in parking facilities.
No injuries were reported during the incident, and as of the latest updates, no arrests have been made. NYPD forensic teams were seen examining the crashed McLaren for evidence as the investigation continues.
