The Denza D9 DM-i is an upcoming luxury MPV set to launch in the UK, combining plug-in hybrid efficiency with premium comfort and long-range capability. Designed to rival high-end people carriers, it offers a spacious cabin, advanced tech and impressive electric-only driving range.
Backed by BYD, Denza is preparing to enter the UK market with its premium lineup, and the D9 DM-i will play a key role. This large MPV is positioned to compete directly with luxury-focused models such as the Lexus LM and the upcoming Mercedes VLE, offering a more affordable alternative without compromising on features.
The D9 DM-i features a versatile 2-2-3 seating configuration, with a pair of high-end captain’s chairs in the second row designed for maximum comfort. The third row offers a full three-seat bench, making the vehicle suitable for families or executive transport. Despite its focus on passenger comfort, practicality remains strong, with enough boot space to accommodate seven carry-on suitcases alongside smaller bags for each occupant.
European models will also benefit from upgrades such as a premium 16-speaker Devialet sound system, enhancing the in-cabin experience.
The DM-i variant combines a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with an electric motor and battery pack. Denza claims the MPV can travel up to 130 miles on electric power alone under WLTP standards, making it highly efficient for daily driving. With both the battery fully charged and fuel tank topped up, the total range is estimated at around 589 miles.
While official European specifications are yet to be confirmed, versions sold in other markets suggest a 40kWh LFP battery and dual electric motors producing approximately 400bhp. Both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations are expected, with the latter capable of accelerating from 0 to 62mph in around 6.2 seconds.
In addition to the plug-in hybrid, the D9 is offered in fully electric form in other markets. This version uses a 103kWh battery and delivers a claimed range of up to 385 miles under China’s NEDC testing cycle. However, WLTP figures for Europe are expected to be lower due to stricter testing standards.
Official UK pricing and launch timelines have yet to be confirmed. However, the Denza D9 DM-i is expected to undercut its main rivals significantly. For reference, the Lexus LM starts at close to £100,000, while the all-electric Mercedes VLE is likely to exceed that figure. Denza’s strategy suggests a more competitive price point, potentially making luxury MPVs more accessible.
