A new report suggests the Chevrolet Camaro could return as early as 2027, joining a next-generation Cadillac CT5 and an all-new Buick sedan on GM’s updated Alpha 2 platform. If accurate, this would mark a major comeback for one of America’s most iconic muscle cars after its discontinuation in 2023.
The sixth-generation Chevrolet Camaro officially ended production on December 13, 2023, at GM’s Lansing Grand River Assembly plant. Since then, Chevrolet has remained tight-lipped about the future of the legendary nameplate. However, recent industry reports indicate that a revival may be closer than expected, signaling another chapter in the Camaro’s stop-start history.
According to sources cited in Automotive News, a new Buick sedan is in development and expected to ride on the updated Alpha 2 architecture. This platform already underpins dynamic models like the Cadillac CT4 and CT5, suggesting the upcoming Buick could emphasize driving performance alongside comfort. The same report claims the sedan will be produced alongside the next-generation Cadillac CT5, expected around the 2027 model year.
Most notably, the same production line is rumored to include a next-generation Chevrolet Camaro. While specific details remain scarce, this is one of the strongest indications yet that GM is planning to revive the pony car. Previous hints, including a renewed trademark filing in 2025 and design concept teasers, already pointed in this direction.
The potential return of the Camaro aligns with GM’s continued investment in performance engineering. The recently introduced LS6 small-block V-8 could be a natural fit for the next-gen model, offering strong output that could rival or exceed competitors like Ford’s Coyote engine. Combined with GM’s ongoing presence in NASCAR, the business case for a new Camaro appears increasingly compelling.
General Motors has yet to officially confirm these developments, but supplier insights and platform strategies suggest something significant is in the works. If the timeline holds, the late 2020s could see the return of the Camaro alongside a refreshed performance-focused sedan lineup from Buick and Cadillac.
