Buick has introduced the Electra E7, a new plug-in hybrid SUV for the Chinese market, attracting over 10,000 orders in just 90 minutes following its launch. Despite its competitive pricing and advanced features, the model is not slated for sale in the United States.
The Electra E7 stands out with a distinctive design, featuring a ‘shark nose’ front, C-shaped daytime running lights, and streamlined door handles. At 4,850 mm in length and with a 2,850 mm wheelbase, it is positioned between the Envision and Enclave within Buick’s global SUV lineup. Metallic trim, pronounced wheel arches, and ‘galaxy wing’ taillights further refine its exterior character.
Inside, the Electra E7 offers a minimalist yet upscale cabin, highlighted by a freestanding digital instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch infotainment display. The use of Oeko tex upholstery, metal accents, and illuminated trims enhances the premium feel. The second row is a focal point, boasting a refrigerator, ceiling-mounted entertainment screen, and the ability for front seats to fold flat, transforming the rear into a lounge area. Additional features include dual glass roofs, heated and ventilated seating, rear tray tables, and a 20-speaker Dolby Atmos audio system.

The Electra E7 is powered by a plug-in hybrid system available in two variants. The base version combines a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter engine (97 hp) with a 221 hp electric motor, while the flagship variant uses a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine (154 hp) paired with the same electric motor. The top model delivers a combined 375 hp, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds and reaching a top speed of 210 km/h. Both versions offer up to 1,013 miles (1,630 km) of total range, including 146 miles (235 km) on electric power alone, thanks to a 32.6 kWh LFP battery pack.
Technologically, the E7 comes equipped with adaptive damping suspension, adjusting 200 times per second, and features the Xiao Yao Zhi Xing autonomous driving system, which operates on both highways and city streets using a suite of 27 sensors.

Buick offers the Electra E7 in three trims: Full Package, Ultra Package, and Ultra Package Turbo. Prices in China start at ¥159,900 ($23,400) and rise to ¥199,900 ($29,300) for the top-tier model. A temporary trade-in incentive lowers the base price to ¥154,900 ($22,700). Even the most expensive Electra E7 is positioned below the entry-level Buick Envista available in the US, highlighting the competitive pricing strategy for the Chinese market.
The rapid uptake of the Electra E7 in China underlines the growing appetite for plug-in hybrid SUVs that deliver both range and luxury features at accessible prices. Buick’s decision to limit this model to China reflects broader market trends, where domestic demand for electrified vehicles is outpacing other global regions. Technically, the E7 presents a balanced package, combining a long electric range with modern amenities such as advanced driver assistance and high-end interior fittings. However, without plans for a US launch, American buyers may view the E7 as a missed opportunity in Buick’s international portfolio. The vehicle’s early sales figures suggest that the blend of affordability and sophistication could serve as a blueprint for future models in other markets, should Buick opt to expand its electrified offerings globally.
