Audi has officially unveiled the E7X crossover at Auto China in Beijing, positioning it as a technology-forward alternative in the electric SUV segment. Developed with SAIC, the E7X stands out not only for its advanced features but also for its extended wheelbase, which surpasses that of the Q7. The new model is set to launch in China later this year, offering two powertrain options and an impressive electric range.
The E7X introduces a distinctive design language, marked by a streamlined front fascia and a ‘black wraparound loop’ that gives the vehicle a modern character. The crossover features a fully enclosed grille with a Light Frame, which integrates over 1,000 triangular LEDs that illuminate when active. Additional design highlights include slim daytime running lights, vertical Digital Matrix LED headlights, digital rearview mirrors, and frameless doors. Flush door handles and aerodynamically optimized wheels further enhance its contemporary look. Measuring 5,049 mm in length and riding on a 3,060 mm wheelbase, the E7X is shorter overall than the Q7 but offers 66 mm more space between the axles.
Inside, the E7X places an emphasis on both technology and comfort. The cabin is anchored by a 59-inch, full-width 4K panoramic display that incorporates video feeds from the camera-based mirrors. Luxury materials such as Nappa leather and premium wood trim are complemented by ambient lighting and a Bose audio system featuring up to 26 speakers. The panoramic sunroof, split into two sections, comes with smart-dimming capabilities for adjustable transparency.

Seating options include both four- and five-seat layouts. The four-seat version offers two individual rear seats with 120-degree recline, a 16-point massage function, and 23 airbags for enhanced comfort and safety. These are separated by a central console with an integrated display and storage, accompanied by a warming/cooling compartment for refreshments. Rear passengers also benefit from a deployable 21.4-inch entertainment system, controllable via voice, remote, or touchscreen.
The E7X is built on the Advanced Digitized Platform and utilizes a 900-volt electrical system, enabling rapid charging from 10% to 80% in just 13 minutes. Battery options include 100 kWh and 109 kWh packs, providing a CLTC-rated range of over 750 km (466 miles). Performance variants start with a rear-wheel drive model delivering 402 hp and 500 Nm of torque, while the all-wheel drive version offers a substantial 671 hp and 800 Nm. The latter accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds.

Technology extends to the driving experience, with features such as all-wheel steering and the lidar-based Audi 360 Driving Assist system. This suite, developed with Momenta, is specifically tailored for the traffic conditions and unique scenarios encountered in China. The E7X also debuts the Audi Assistant 2.0, an AI-powered in-car system developed with ByteDance that manages vehicle functions, navigation, and entertainment, while supporting conversational interaction.
With the launch of the E7X, Audi signals a renewed commitment to the Chinese EV market, offering a model that combines high-end technology with segment-leading comfort. The extended wheelbase and innovative cabin features demonstrate a focus on local consumer preferences, setting the E7X apart from its global siblings like the Q7. While this model is unlikely to reach Western markets in its current form, it sets a benchmark for what future Audi EVs might deliver worldwide. As the competition among premium electric SUVs intensifies, Audi’s China-specific approach could inform broader strategies in the electrification race. The E7X’s blend of performance, rapid charging, and luxury will be closely watched by rivals and consumers alike as it enters the market later this year.
