Hyundai has resumed sales of the 2026 Hyundai Palisade after implementing a critical software fix addressing rear-seat safety concerns. The update follows a temporary sales halt in March and introduces improved occupant detection and stricter seat-folding controls.
Sales of the Palisade Calligraphy and Limited trims were suspended after a fatal incident involving a two-year-old child. In response, Hyundai issued a recall and a stop-sale order to dealerships on March 13 while it investigated and developed a solution.
The updated software focuses on enhancing occupant and object detection in the second and third rows. Hyundai has disabled the one-touch automatic seat-folding function, replacing it with a press-and-hold operation to reduce accidental activation. Additionally, the tailgate must now be open for rear-seat stowing, and seat-folding controls have been removed from the infotainment system.
Owners of affected vehicles can receive the update over the air if they have an active Bluelink subscription. Alternatively, Hyundai dealers can perform the update for customers who prefer in-person service or do not use connected services. Dealerships must complete the update on inventory vehicles before resuming sales.
With the fix now in place, Hyundai is moving forward with sales of its flagship SUV. The updated safety measures aim to restore confidence while ensuring stricter safeguards for passengers, particularly in the rear seats.
